I walk into AT&T, pick a phone, a plan and half an hour, hour at most, I have a working phone in hand.
That was the first time I'd gotten a phone plan.
Yesterday, I stop by the phone place. Two hours later after asking for a bill in my name, government ID, and every other identifying document, they ask for a reference. Not only a reference, it has to be a reference of someone who has a home phone. How many of you have a land line? Yes, that's right, getting a phone is like getting a job or getting a car. I actually think it took me less time to buy a car. Needless to say, I still don't have a phone.

Seriously, I think your dealing with some sort of discrimination--otherwise it's just too weird.
